Sticky Brick Runt – Australian Review

The Sticky Brick Runt is the latest manual vaporizer from Sticky Brick Labs and it is gaining popularity very quickly among Australian herb vapers.

Manual vapes are the fastest growing herbal vaporizer segment here at VapeFuse and we expect this trend to continue as more and more manual vaporizers are brought to market.

We have recently reviewed another very popular manual vape here in Australia, the DynaVap M.

Before I get onto the Runt, please always keep in mind that using manual vaporizers usually takes a little more caution to make sure you don’t burn yourself.

Please review this video here, where we go through how to stay safe while vaping with manual devices. Having said that, let’s get onto the Runt!

The Design of the Sticky Brick Runt Vaporizer

Sticky Brick vaporizers are designed using wooden ‘bricks’ that stick together magnetically. Hence the name – Sticky Brick.

The Runt follows the same concept and it is made out of three brick elements.

Sticky Brick Runt bricks apart

Base Brick: the largest brick on the left is the base brick and it houses a tool port as well as the mouthpiece with an o-ring.

Intake Brick: The brick on the top on the right is the intake brick. It houses a heat intake glass with an o-ring on the top and a restrictor disc underneath the glass.

Restrictor Disc

The restrictor disc is there to protect the wood from high temperatures and also to make it easier not to overheat your herbs in the chamber.

You can experiment with removing the disc as you get more and more confident using the Runt vaporizer. I personally keep the restrictor disc in place and prefer to use the Runt that way.

The intake brick also has an air intake port on the front to enable air to be drawn into the chamber.

Chamber Brick: The third and last brick of the Runt is the chamber brick. This brick houses the herb chamber and a carb hole.

The carb hole can be blocked with the supplied carb cork if you wish.

The chamber is carved out of the high-quality wood that makes up the Runt that makes these vaporizers very unique.

How to Use the Sticky Brick Runt Vaporizer

Using a manual vaporizer has a little more emphasized learning curve than electronic vaporizers.

With a manual vape like the Sticky Brick Runt, you generate the heat from a torch while you are inhaling through the device and it does take a few goes to get used to it.

Let’s go through the steps of using the Runt and I’ll try to do my best to give you some tips and tricks along the way, so you can vape like a pro in no time.

The first step is to remove the heat intake brick to expose your herb chamber.

Load your chamber with ground herbs making sure you add enough herbs to cover the bottom screen entirely but keep it below the inner ledge.

Once your herbs are loaded, you can put the top intake brick back and you are just about ready to go.

Adjust the heat intake glass to the direction that you are comfortable with. You can turn it head-on, or slightly sideways. I personally like to turn it 90 degrees sideways so that I can see the flame clearly as I am vaping.

The final step before you are ready for your first go is to adjust the flame on your torch.

You should aim for about 20 to 30mm length flame to start with and you can adjust it to your style as you are gaining experience using your Runt.

When you are ready, place the mouthpiece to your lips and cover the carb hole with your most convenient finger.

Make sure you don’t cover the air intake, only the carb hole.

Fire up your torch and aim the flame into the heat intake glass tube. You should direct the flame into the tube. Position the flame so the light blue outer flame is flash with your glass tube’s edge.

Draw slowly and as you start feeling the vapor (or seeing it through the glass mouthpiece) you can increase or decrease your draw speed.

It will take a few sessions to develop your style. The two variables that you are working with are the flame (size and closeness to the heat intake) and draw speed.

There are other variables of course, such as the quality and grind of your herbs, however, the above two are the most important.

If you apply too much heat and draw strongly, you can actually combust your herbs, so you need to be alert, at least initially, until you get the hang of it.

Try to change only one thing as you are experimenting so you always know what works for you and whatnot.

As you nearing the end of your draw, stop the torch and open the carb hole to finish off your draw.

I like to stir my herbs between every single draw to keep the herbs vaporized evenly.

The Runt comes with a stainless steel and a wooden stirring tool so you have a choice there. I personally settled with the wooden one and have been using that one mostly.

How to Maintain the Sticky Brick Runt Vaporizer

One of the benefits of manual vaporizers is that they are usually pretty simple to maintain.

The Sticky Brick Runt is surely one of those. It is really easy to keep in top-performing condition.

The only part that needs occasional cleaning is the mouthpiece. I find that with stirring the herbs regularly, they tend to break up to small particles in the chamber.

These small bits seem to make their way through the screen from the chamber and most of them build up in the mouthpiece.

The mouthpiece can be cleaned in hot water very quickly. If it gets very dirty, you can use some isopropyl alcohol as well.

Never apply iso to the wooden parts though. They are delicate hardwood and last for a long time.

When you take the glass part out, always put the o-ring in position first, before you put the glass part back. This is true for the mouthpiece as well as for the heat intake.

This way you can easily get the o-rings into position. If you put the o-ring on the glass first and then try to get it in, it takes a while to get to the o-ring into poison.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts on the Sticky Brick Runt

I started out as a skeptic to manual vapes and the Sticky Brick Runt seemed a little odd to me at first. I wasn’t sure if the vapor can get any butane in there and how quickly I could get up and running with it.

I ended up falling in love with the Runt right after the first use. There is something special to the wooden design and the vapor it produces is pristine clear.

It has a decent size chamber and I love the wooden chamber for many reasons, some of them I can’t even explain.

I developed a ‘relationship’ with my Runt and look at it as a device that I’ll have for a very long time. I love the feel of the wood and the complete lack of electrical parts.

All my electric vapes I treat them as devices for a certain period of time, but sooner or later they all die as the electrical parts degrade over time due to the frequent heat exposure. They might last for 10+ years, but they are going to perish at some point.

The Runt is a vaporizer for a long time, most likely for life.

I would highly recommend the Runt to anyone that is vaporizing regularly and interested in battery-free vaping.
